Children’s Choirs and DRUM Program
Children having completed kindergarten through sixth grades may attend the children’s choir rehearsals. In addition to the morning rehearsals, children also rehearse an hour each afternoon from 1:30-2:30.
- Younger Elementary Choir
- Older Elementary Choir
These groups rehearse at the following times:
- Sunday – 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
- Monday through Thursday – 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- Monday through Wednesday – 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Children’s Choirs and DRUM Concert: Thursday – 1:30 p.m.
At 2:30, children begin afternoon rotations. These rotations vary from year to year, but may include dance, crafts, outside play, Orff, sign language, drumming or a dramatic interpretation with dowel rods.
NEW IN 2017: All children will be able to participate in a Talent Rotation. Any child that sings, plays an instrument, dances, juggles, does magic tricks, or anything else can prepare a one and a half minute act/piece to share in their rotation group. We will provide a keyboard, CD player, microphone and accompanist. We hope each child takes the opportunity to share a favorite act/piece with their peers during Music Week, so practice and come prepared. (NOTE: Participation in the Tuesday Night Youth Talent Show will be limited to those who are registered for the Middle and Senior High Choirs.)
The afternoon programs are optional and parents may sign their children out of the Children’s Building at 2:30 p.m. if they so desire. Please inform the Children’s Building Manager in advance if this is the case.
Preschool Day Care Program (age 2 – Pre K) will be provided by the Lake Junaluska staff for both MWAW and the Lake Junaluska Day Care Program. Hours of operation for MWAW children will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
All children must be signed in and out each time the child enters or leaves the building by an adult wearing an official MWAW name tag. Children are dismissed for lunch. If a child is expected to stay through lunch, parents are required to provide a good lunch and beverage for their child.
All children attending MWAW must be pre-registered in advance. Pre-registration for childcare for the week is available via event registration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Safe Sanctuary policies followed at this event?
Yes. Parents and/or chaperones will be required to sign their children in and out of the Wilson’s Children Complex for each session. Additionally, all contracted event leaders are required to agree to and abide by The Fellowship’s Safe Sanctuary Policy.
Is it okay for me to register my younger or older child for a particular choir so that she can be with children she knows?Unfortunately, no. We have contracted with clinicians for specific grade levels, and we must honor those contracts.
Why are sixth graders allowed to choose between the children’s programming and the middle high choir?
Some sixth graders are not ready, vocally or socially, for the middle high choir. Those children may remain in the children’s choir rehearsals. All children in the Wilson Children’s Complex are required to be signed in and out by a parent or chaperone.
Parents and Chaperones
There is a MWAW Orientation session offered Sunday at 5 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. All parents and chaperones are highly encouraged to attend one of these meetings, especially if you are a first-time attendee.
All children in the Elementary Age Choirs and DRUM must be signed in and out of the Children’s Building by a person wearing an official MWAW name tag each time they enter or leave the building.
